Sadly, the studio version pales in comparison. Aside from the lack of brass, the song’s production courtesy of the normally reliable Rick Rubin (Beastie Boys, Johnny Cash) suffers from too much compression and no dynamic, with The Edge’s spiky lead guitar stripped of its authority by Billie Joe’s bullish rhythm, Adam Clayton and Mike Dirnt’s duelling bass work cancelling one another out, and Tre Cool’s rolling drums rendering Larry Mullen’s input futile.
Moreover, Billie Joe and Bono’s vocals do not mesh, the Green Day singer sounding surprisingly passionless and subdued, while the U2 frontman is the complete opposite, his gravely howl coming in with all the nuance of a sledgehammer wielding bull in a china shop.

Og jeg oppfattet det i grunn som at du sa at jeg ikke får lov til å mislike Bono.
